Step 1: Find the MABD on Your Purchase Order
Every Walmart purchase order lists its MABD, and the PO is where your planning starts. Two dates on the PO set your timing:
- Do Not Ship Before (DNSB): The earliest date your freight can leave your facility.
- Must Arrive By Date (MABD): The date your freight is due at the DC.

Step 2: Work Backward From the MABD to Your Ship Date
Your latest safe ship date is the MABD, minus the lane's transit time, minus at least one buffer day. Here's how that plays out on a sample PO:
- Your PO has a Friday MABD at a Walmart DC.
- The lane runs two days of transit from your plant, so the latest departure is Wednesday.
- One buffer day for weather or a late appointment moves the departure to Tuesday.
- Your product has to be frozen, palletized and staged on the dock for a Tuesday pickup.
Use the transit time your carrier actually runs on that lane. A map estimate leaves out driver hours, other stops on the route and the appointment time at the DC. For pool freight, the lane includes the truckload move from your plant to the pool and the pool's weekly departure day.
Frozen freight adds time at the start. Product has to reach its shipping temperature before it's loaded, because a reefer holds temperature and can't bring warm product down to frozen. A production run that finishes late usually misses the pickup, and a missed pickup usually misses the MABD.
